New for 2012! PALS will hold monthly adoption events at the Marketplace on Main in Grinnell. Stop by on the second Sunday of every month, between noon and 2 p.m. A selection of animals will be available for adoption. Applications will be processed during the event, so if approved, same day adoptions are possible.

PALS is in desperate need of more volunteers. If you are interested in helping at the shelter, please send us an email at palsiowa@pcpartner.net. The shelter has 3 shifts a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Shifts include 7 a.m., 5 and 9 p.m., and typically last about an hour. Duties include feeding, cleaning, walking, and playing. If you love animals, please consider volunteering.
PALS’ mission is to provide care and shelter for homeless or unwanted animals, to strive to find permanent, loving homes for these animals, to respond to animal neglect and abuse reports, to educate children and adults in our communities on the humane treatment of animals, and on the importance of spaying and neutering to prevent pet overpopulation.
PALS has worked extremely hard for the past five years to provide our county with a shelter. Prior to our opening, the only option for stray animals picked up by city police and sheriff’s departments in Poweshiek County was a 7-day stay at local veterinary clinics. If owners or an adopting family were not found in that short period of time, the animals were then euthanized. PALS has stepped in not only to provide a safe haven for these homeless animals, but to also ensure they receive responsible vet care including spay/neuters, shots, deworming, and flea/tick control, as well as addressing any emergency medical concerns. We are happy to report that we have helped more than 800 animals find loving homes!
ShelterCare Pet Insurance Programs cover you when your pet needs essential veterinary care from an illness or injury. Also, every time a completed application for a ShelterCare program generated through our shelter’s website, we automatically receive $25 donation to help cover common needs like blankets, litter and food. This donation is of no cost to you and provides us with essential funds. Make the right move and enroll today!
